#14 Razorbacks rout New Mexico 52-3

LITTLE ROCK (UofA) - The 14th-ranked University of Arkansas football team scored a 52-3 victory over New Mexico on Saturday inside War Memorial Stadium. The Razorbacks were paced by standout performances by wide receivers Joe Adams, Marquel Wade and Cobi Hamilton. Arkansas outgained New Mexico in offensive yardage 632 to 297.

The win improves the Razorbacks' record to 2-0, while the Lobos drop to 0-2. Head coach Bobby Petrino was impressed with the performance of Razorbacks. The fourth-year head coach has steered the Razorbacks to 103 points in the first two games of the season, the second most in school history and the most in the first two games of a season since the 1911 squad scored 165.

"We came down here and did what we needed to do," Coach Petrino said. "We had a good week of preparation and we traveled well. The team did a good job of preparing for the trip down to Little Rock and getting mentally ready in the hotel."

Arkansas' 632 offensive yards was the sixth most in school history and the most since 647 yards of total offense against Houston on Oct. 28, 1989.

UA got on the board before two minutes had passed in the game when quarterback Tyler Wilson found wide receiver Jarius Wright from 12 yards out at the 13:03 mark in the first quarter. The Lobos countered with a 47-yard field goal from James Aho with 4:57 remaining in the first quarter. The three points would be the only points scored by New Mexico in the contest.

Arkansas' Wade immediately answered for the Razorbacks, taking the ensuing kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown. The score was the first of the freshman's career and advanced UA's lead to 14-3.

The Razorbacks scored their first points of the second quarter with a 24-yard field goal from Zach Hocker with 5:38 remaining in the half. With the score at 17-3, freshman running back Kody Walker rumbled into the end zone from one yard out to move the score to 24-3 in favor of the Razorbacks. Wilson closed out the half for the Razorbacks with a seven-yard scramble to the end zone with 17 seconds remaining to push Arkansas' lead to 31-3 heading into the break.

In third quarter action, Walker added another one-yard touchdown rush to make the score 38-3 with 9:42 remaining in the third quarter. The freshman finished the game with 32 rushing yards and the two scores.

In the final quarter of the War Memorial contest, Brandon Mitchell connected with Hamilton for a 54-yard scoring strike at the 12:00 mark. Hamilton finished the game with five receptions for 132 yards and the score for the fourth 100-yard receiving game of his career. Three of those games have come in Little Rock.

To finalize the 52-3 margin of victory for the Razorbacks, Mitchell scrambled across the goal line from 14 yards out with 4:28 remaining in the game.

Arkansas next faces Troy on Sept. 17 in Fayetteville inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The game will be broadcast on CSS with a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
