Park's Goal lifts Harding Men's Soccer over Ouachita Baptist

From Harding University

Harding freshman Ian Park scored his first collegiate goal in the 77th minute to give the Bisons a 2-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Friday at the Harding Soccer Field. Both teams compete in the Gulf South Conference in men's soccer but Friday's matchup was a non-conference game.

The GSC contest between the teams is Harding's final regular season game on Oct. 28.

Harding (2-1-1) took an early lead in the 20th minute. Ouachita Baptist defender Connor Burke committed a hand-ball foul in the box, giving Harding's Ryan Wilhelm a penalty kick. OBU goalkeeper David Henley saved Wilhelm's attempt, but junior Josh Ireland tapped in the rebound for his second goal of the season.

Ouachita Baptist (1-3-0) answered in the 31st minute to tie the game at 1-1. Nathan Gay's cross from the left side caromed off a Harding defender and Sergiu Postolache headed the ball past Harding goalkeeper Zach Auala. It was Postolache's second of the season.

Harding finally took the lead for good as Park corralled Cameron Rose's free kick from the left side of the box and shot it inside Henley's far post.

With the victory, Harding improved to 5-1 against Ouachita Baptist in Searcy and snapped a three-game losing streak to the Tigers.

Friday's game was the last of four home games to open the season. The Bisons will go on the road for their next four, beginning with a trip to Drury University in Springfield, Mo., on Tuesday.
