“Active Shooter” training teaches ASU students what to do

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Arkansas State University is teaching its students what to do in case the unexpected happens.

It's part of "Campus Safety Week," at ASU and police are using this week to teach students what to do if a shooter were to strike the campus.

Students gathered in the ASU Student Union to hear what to do from University police investigators if an there was an on campus shooter.

ASU Freshman Catherine Simpkins said the classes were very helpful, "On lock down you really don't know what to do, what's going on, and you're always asking what if, what if somebody does come in the classroom? And so this helped a lot to help us figure out what to do."

ASU PD will hold several classes for students to take part:

September 13 at 8:00a, 11:00a and 2:00p

September 14 at 1:00p and 3:00p

September 15 at 9:30a, 12:30p and 3:30p

September 16 at 9:00a and 11:00a
