ASU Women's Golf opens season at Dale McNamara Invitational

JONESBORO (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's golf team opened its 2011-12 season Monday at the Dale McNamara Invitational, posting a 315 to finish the three-day tournament's first round in 14th place among 15 competing teams.

The Red Wolves trail Southern Miss by only one stroke and are within seven of ninth-place UCF, while Arizona State recorded a 280 to end the day with a 14-stroke lead over second-place Oklahoma State.  Middle Tennessee is in third place with a 294.

A-State was led by senior Jennifer Welch, who carded a 4-over par 76 to end the day tied for 26th place.  Junior Anna Carling, last year's Sun Belt Conference Championships medalist, completed the first round tied for 31st place with a 77 to join Welch among the top 50 leaders.

Courtney Manning ended her freshman year in 2011 by collecting three top-10 finishes over the Red Wolves last five tournaments, but currently stands tied for 58th place at the Dale McNamara after shooting an 80.  Also competing for A-State, junior Jennifer Loiacano is tied for 67th place and freshman Jelena Latinovic is in 75th with a 91.

The Red Wolves will continue competition at the Dale McNamara tomorrow with the tournament's second round.
