JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - What's the secret to living a long life? We spoke to one 91-year-old woman who says it's walking.
Ruth Ervin walks three miles a day, seven days a week and loves every minute of it. Sometimes she says she even walks six miles. Another secret to her long life is watching her diet avoiding smoking and drinking.
Ruth says the key to starting an exercise plan is taking baby steps, "Start with half a mile or something like that and then you increase it daily and I just enjoy it."
Last year she walked and ran the DownTown J-Town CityYouth 5k for the first time. Everyone gave Ruth a standing ovation when she crossed the finish line. She will be back this year to run it again. Registration kicks off at 7a.m. and the race starts at 8a.m. this Saturday.
