JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – An arrest has been made after shots were fired Monday night at Parker Park in north Jonesboro, and now city officials and police are upgrading security.
According to Jonesboro Police 20-year-old Anthony Tribley of Jonesboro was arrested and will be charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
Police say Tribley pulled a handgun from his backpack and started firing at another individual. No one was hit by the shooting, but a man's car was damaged by the shooting. Children were also present with little league football practice at the time of the shooting.
The shooting has also prompted the City of Jonesboro to upgrade parts of the Parker Park facility.
According to a press release by the City of Jonesboro, the city and City Water and Light will be adding large scale security lighting at the park.
The Jonesboro Parks and Recreation Department will also be installing a security fence at the park, to help control the hours of usage. Workers will also cut back tree to help increase visibility for police officers.
Jonesboro Police has increased patrol, and will have on-duty officers present during all youth sports activities at the park.
