LITTLE ROCK, AR - Two more small Region 8 communities will keep their state revenue offices now that they have made plans to absorb costs the state wanted to cut.
Cave City (Sharp County) and Imboden (Lawrence County) city officials have agreed to pay all expenses beyond personnel and supplies in order to keep the offices open for their residents.
The state Department of Finance & Administration had planned to save $640,000 per year by closing 38 revenue offices. The state uses the offices for collecting fees for licensing motor vehicles, trailers and drivers.
The agency planned to close 33 offices, largely in rural areas, and merge nine urban offices into four with extended hours.
State finance director Richard Weiss says cities can keep their offices if they are willing to pay for rent, utilities, janitorial work and maintaining computer lines.
