Schedule for 2011 ASU Playday volleyball tournament released

JONESBORO, AR (Daily Dunklin Democrat) - The schedule for the 2011 Arkansas State University Playday volleyball tourney has been released.

The 2011 tournament will take place Sept. 24 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The top 16 teams in the tournament will participate in the black division at Valley View High School. The other 12 teams will participate in the scarlet division at the Arkansas State University Red Wolf Center.

BLACK DIVISION

Three of the 16 schools in the black division - Nettleton, Valley View and Crowley's Ridge Academy - won state titles in Arkansas in 2010.

All pool-play games will consist of two sets with a 25 point cap.

After pool-play the team finishing first in each pool will advance to a four-team gold bracket. The team finishing second in each pool will advance to a four-team silver bracket, the team finishing third in each pool will advance to a four-team bronze bracket and the team finishing fourth in each pool will advance to a four-team consolation bracket.

Bracket-play is slated for Saturday afternoon. Bracket-play games will consist of the best two out of three sets with third sets going to 15 points instead of 25. There is no cap for bracket-play games.

SCARLET DIVISION

Bernie, Caruthersville, Malden and Southland are among the 12 schools which will participate in the scarlet division at the tournament. Bernie won the scarlet division at the tournament in 2010.

All pool-play games will consist of two sets with a 25 point cap.

After pool-play, teams will be ranked in a seeding order from 1 to 12. The seeding order is determined by using a point won ratio.

Example: If Team A won 148 points and lost 126 points then the ratio would be 148 divided by 126, which equals 1.1746. If Team B won 148 points and lost 128 points then the ration would be 1.1562. Therefore, Team A would be seeded above Team B because it has the higher point won ratio.

The top four seeds advance to the gold bracket, seeds 5-8 advance to the silver bracket and seeds 9-12 advance to the bronze bracket.

All bracket-play matches will be 2 out of 3 three sets, rally score, with the third set going to 15 instead of 25. None of the bracket-play matches are capped.

Bracket-play games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Tournament officials did not provide precise starting times for bracket-play games before press deadline.
