BIRMINGHAM, AL - A small plane piloted by a construction executive from Arkansas crash-landed on an Alabama freeway exit ramp. Traffic in Birmingham was slowed, but three people aboard the plane escaped serious injury.
A family member says Rick Cowart, of Salem, was flying the Cessna 182-K from Arkansas, preparing to land at Birmingham International Airport last night.
But the plane clipped a power line at about 50 feet and went nose down, spilling fuel across the Interstate 20/59 exit ramp.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
