Brookland Police: Man arrested after standoff

BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) - According to Brookland Police Chief Mark Rusher, 56-year old Michael Ring, who lives at 493 County Road 936 in Craighead County, was arrested Sunday on charges of two counts of aggravated assault and one count of terroristic threatening.

Rusher said Ring called police, threatening to commit suicide at 11:15am Sunday. After the call, Ring also apparently threatened to run over his son and daughter in law with his car.

Rusher said Ring then barricaded himself in his home after police arrived. He was inside his home for about an hour and then he called his son to make everything right.

After the call, police took Ring into custody without incident when he finally came outside.

Ring will appear before Judge Keith Blackman Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in District Court in Jonesboro.

Rusher said Brookland police, the Craighead County Sheriff's Office and Arkansas State Police all responded to the call.
