12th Solheim Cup begins with Natural State ties on USA & Europe squads

DUBLIN (KAIT) - One of the biggest events in women's golf is taking place this weekend in Ireland. The 12th Solheim Cup tees off at Killeen Castle.

There are players with Natural State ties in this year's event. Arkansas alum Stacy Lewis is on the USA squad. Former ASU golfer Karen Stupples is playing for Europe.

Lewis will play in the Solheim Cup for the first time. She was a 4-time All-Southeastern Conference and All-American for the Razorbacks. She earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 2005, won the NCAA Individual title in 2007. She also was the SEC Women's Golfer of the Year in 2008.

Stupples will play in the event for the second time. She had a 0-2-0 record in 2005. The Englishwoman won all-Sun Belt Conference honors as a freshman at Arkansas State in 1993.

The Solheim Cup will be broadcast this weekend on The Golf Channel. The schedule is below (Central Time):

  • Friday: 1:30 am - 12:00 pm (replay 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm)
  • Saturday: 1:30 am - 12:00 pm (replay 6:00 - 9:00 pm)
  • Sunday: 4:00 am-10:30 am, plus Closing Ceremony (replay 7:00 - 9:00 pm)
