Arkansas Unemployment Rate Drops to 6.0 Percent

December 5, 2003 - Posted at 3:03 p.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The unemployment rate in Arkansas dropped to 6.0 percent for November from 6.2 percent in October.  The numbers were announced today by the Arkansas Workforce Investment Board.

The national unemployment rate for November was 5.9 percent, down from 6.0 percent the month before.

The number of employed Arkansans rose by 400 to 1,232,700.  The number of jobless state residents dropped by 2,400 to 79,000 in November.

The board says manufacturing jobs continue to decline in the state.  Hiring in the retail sector for the holiday shopping season helped boost the number of employed people for the month.
