Suspect in custody after stealing Parkin police car

PARKIN, AR (KAIT) - Authorities have arrested a man wanted for stealing a Parkin police car after a Friday morning chase that spanned two states.

Authorities from across West Tennessee and eastern Arkansas pursued the suspect.  According to Parkin Mayor Charles Patterson, the incident started when officers pulled over a speeding vehicle around 7:00 a.m.

Patterson said the speeding suspect pulled into a yard and then tried to run over one of the Parkin officers.

Officers continued to follow the suspect, eventually pulling him over a second time.  When an officer attempted to place handcuffs on the man, he fought them off, jumped into a police car, and sped away toward Memphis.

The suspect passed through Memphis around 8:30 a.m., where MPD officers spotted the stolen police car and pursued it.  The suspect eventually left the city, going across the I-55 bridge into Arkansas.

Witnesses said the stolen police car lost a tire on Third Street, shortly before going across the bridge.

The suspect was taken into custody moments later by West Memphis police.
