CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) - Police in Caruthersville are once again dealing with officers injured in the line of duty.
According to police, two officers were injured Sunday night while trying to arrest three related men at a home on 705 West 10th Street. In the end, police arrested Doyle Wayne Thomas and Clinton Bridges, both of Desoto, IL; and Jimmy Bridges, of Caruthersville.
Police say Officers Richard Altice and Andy Thrasher were taken to the hospital and treated for multiple injuries after both officers were beaten with bare hands about the head and face and Thrasher was hit in the back of his head with a piece of wood by Doyle Bridges.
Officers originally arrived at the home after a child made a 911 call about adults fighting that was ended abruptly by someone on the child's side of the emergency line.
When police arrived to investigate, they say Bo Bridges, head of the household, told them his father, Doyle Bridges, was drunk and had destroyed furniture inside but ran out the back door and hid by the time officers arrived.
Caruthersville Officer Richard Altice was outside talking to Jimmy Bridges, of Caruthersville and Bo's brother, while Officer Andy Thrasher went inside to gather information. Police say Officer Thrasher soon asked for help with a seemingly drunk Clinton Bridges, of Desoto, IL when he became uncooperative.
Police say Officer Thrasher asked Clinton Bridges, Doyle Bridge's brother, to place his hands behind his back; Bridges would not comply.
Officers say Doyle Bridges then came back into the home, grabbed a piece of wood, possibly from a kitchen chair, and hit Officer Thrasher in the back of his head; Doyle Bridges then began hitting Officer Thrasher in the face and around his head with his fist.
Officer Altice rushed inside to assist.
Police say Doyle Bridges was shot with a taser to control him, but the un-phased Bridges went on to attack Officer Altice, hitting him in the head with an unknown object.
Soon, more Caruthersville Officers and Pemiscot County Deputies were called to the scene to control the situation.
All three suspects were locked up in the Pemiscot County Jail.
The two officers were taken to the local hospital to be treated for their multiple facial and head injuries. Police are not releasing the condition of the officers at this time.
Police do say they expect formal charges to be filed Monday morning in a Pemiscot County courtroom.
This is the second time in as many months that officer Altice has been injured in the line of duty. He was injured in August when he was involved in a crash that killed fellow Officer Evan Burns following a high speed chase.
Doyle Bridges is charged with two counts of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, resisting arrest and property damage. Clinton Bridges is charged with one count of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. Jimmy Bridges is charged with one count of willfully opposing a police officer.
