JONESBORO, AR (KAIT & AP) - A Region 8 man charged with murder appeared in a Craighead County court Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Craighead County Prosecutor's Office, Cornelius Johnson had his court case moved to May 7.

Prosecutors had asked Circuit Judge Victor Hill to order that Cornelius Johnson be forced to take the medication in an effort to make him fit to stand trial. Johnson has been hospitalized since June, 2011 when he was found mentally unfit for trial.

Johnson is accused of shooting Verlee Harris Jr., to death on October 2, 2010. According to the Jonesboro Police Department, Harris was killed around 7pm at the Melrose Apartment Complex at 307 Melrose Street on October 2.

Police say Johnson and Harris were arguing, when Johnson picked up a gun and shot Harris, who later died.
