CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - The University of Central Arkansas has turned over its investigation into a $700,000 gift offered by a food service company to Arkansas State Police.
University spokesman Jeff Pitchford says an internal committee formed earlier this month voted Tuesday to suspend the university's investigation. University President Allen C. Meadors resigned after it was revealed that he knew Aramark's offer to renovate his home was contingent upon the company's contract being renewed for seven years.
Trustees said Meadors didn't tell them all the details and formed a committee to investigate how the offer was handled. Conway Prosecuting Attorney Cody Hiland last week asked Arkansas State Police to investigate, leading trustees to suspend their own effort.
A state police spokesman says the investigation is ongoing.
