JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- U.S. Postal Service employees in Jonesboro and across the county held rallies to give residents information on how to save community post offices.
Tuesday was designated by post office workers as a 'Day of Action to Save America's Postal Service'. People came together to rally at the Region Bank parking lot in Jonesboro for two reasons. They wanted to inform the public about the financial situation of the U.S. Postal Service.
The second goal was to win the support of House Bill 1351 which would give the service access to billions of dollars in pre-paid pension accounts. Barry Bode, President of the Local National Association Of Letter Carriers, tells Region 8 News that as of Monday the bill had 215 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives.
Similar rallies took place in every congressional district in the country on Tuesday.
