JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) — Following his performance in Arkansas State's 26-22 victory over Western Kentucky Saturday in Bowling Green, ASU junior quarterback Ryan Aplin has been named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the leagueannounced Monday morning. Monday's award marks the fourth time in his career that Aplin has been named Offensive Player of the Week.
Aplin set a new ASU record for completions in a game when he connected on 37 attempts, passing for a season-high 396 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He also recorded his first career reception when he hauled in a touchdown pass in the second quarter.
With 2:39 remaining in the game, Aplin led the Red Wolves on what proved to be the game-winning drive when he completed 5-of-6 passes on a 9-play drive that ended with ASU in the end zone with 43 seconds remaining. The drive included a key 18-yard completion on third-and-17 to give A-State a first down at the WKU 11.
For the game, Aplin completed passes to eight different receivers, topped 300 yards passing for the third time in his career and 200 yards for the 15th time. He accounted for 424 yards of total offense and two touchdowns in the game, his 37 completions are the ninth-most by any player in the nation this season, and he topped the 5,000-yard mark for career passing yardage with 5,213.
Aplin and the Red Wolves will return to action Saturday when ASU travels to Monroe, La. to take on the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe in a 6:00 p.m. Sun Belt Conference matchup.
