ASU Men's Golf finishes 13th at D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate

The Arkansas State men's golf team completed play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate on Sunday with its best round of the two-day tournament, recording a 294 that brought its three-round total to 924 as the Red Wolves finished 13th among 15 teams.

All five ASU golfers competing at the tournament enjoyed their best round of the tournament on Sunday, including Chris Pledger, Cory Williamson and Christian Pitz all with a team-best 72. The Red Wolves improved their score each round after posting a 322 for the initial 18 holes. They followed the first round with a 308 for the second 18 holes played yesterday before cutting 14 strokes off that total today.

A-State was led by Pledger, who finished with a combined 223 (75-76-72) to finish tied for 17th place, picking up his second top-25 finish over the Red Wolves first three tournaments.

Following Pledger, Cory Williamson finished tied for 34th place with a 227 (77-78-72), Christian Pitz tied for 57th place with a 232 (86-74-72), Tommy Eagon 74th with a 242 (84-80-78) and Matt Howton 77th with a 248 (87-82-79).

Illinois claimed the tournament championship with an 852, while Akron took runner-up honors with an 875 and Southern Illinois third with an 885.

ASU will return to action at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by UMKC and is slated to be played Oct. 17-18 in Overland Park, Kan.
