School flu shot clinics provided by Health Dept. kicking off

Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - Once again the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) and the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) will be offering season flu vaccines to school children in grades K-12.

The flu shot clinics will begin on October 14 and will last for the next several months.

Before a child can receive the vaccine parents must sign and return a consent form to the school.  Children will not be able to receive the vaccine without signed parental permission.

In Clay County, clinics will be held at the following schools:

Both the nasal mist form and the injectable form of the flu vaccine will be available.  Children who are unable to take the mist form include those less than two years of age; children who have asthma; and children who have an underlying health condition.

Seasonal flu vaccine is not required for children to attend school, but the ADH says it is highly recommended.
