Broadway performer praises Region 8 school for anti-bullying campaign

WEINER, AR (KAIT) - A Broadway performer stepped off the stage in New York and into a local gym to talk about the seriousness of bullying on Thursday.

Kyle Dean Massey, star of the Broadway show "Wicked", made a special trip to Weiner Schools to check out their anti-bullying program they've patterned after the popular musical.

Massey shared his own personal star with students and got a first hand look at their "Upstander" Program.

"People get bullied," said Wesley Creasey, a junior at Weiner High School, "it causes suicide." He said they to stop bullying in their school because it could save a life.

The program was put in place by Counselor Carol Little, the "Upstander" program focuses its attention on the individuals that chose to stand up for the victims.

Little said students have created a video and rap to go along with the program, which was started in Weiner Schools in January of last year. She also says they now have zero reports of bullying in the school system.

Thanksgiving is a time to be with loved ones and enjoy good food, but since that is not an option for everyone, members of the Jonesboro community came together to make sure as many people as possible were fed.
