Habitat for Humanity to build 10 houses in Joplin

JOPLIN, MO (AP) - Ten Joplin families are waiting in anticipation as Habitat for Humanity prepares to build them homes in two weeks.

The families, who lost homes in the May 22 tornado, on Thursday met their sponsors for the project, called Ten for Joplin. Habitat for Humanity will begin the building Oct. 29 and plans to finish by Nov. 13.

The Tulsa, Okla., and Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity groups are working together on the project. About $1 million was raised in six weeks for the project.

The Joplin Globe reports (http://bit.ly/n6sF2F) that Paul Kent, executive director of the Tulsa group, says each house will cost about $60,000. Corporate sponsors are picking up the costs. The families will have 20-year mortgages with zero percent interest through Habitat for Humanity.
