People eat cockroaches for season passes

AUSTELL, GA (WGCL/CNN) - People at Six Flags Over Georgia participated in a cockroach eating contest to win a season pass to the amusement park.

On Saturday, those adventurous diners who successfully ate a Madagascar hissing cockroach won a 2012 season pass to the park.

A park spokesman says public health officials assured them the roaches are safe to eat.

The Madagascar hissing cockroach is among the largest species of cockroaches.

The cockroaches are usually about 2 to 3 inches long.
