TUCKERMAN, AR (KAIT) – All-terrain vehicles will stay off city streets permanently in Tuckerman.
The city council voted Tuesday not to change an 11-year-old ordinance banning ATVs from driving on city streets. Lynelle Bridgeman was the lone dissenting vote, as the city council member led an effort to rework or revisit the ordinance.
A committee even met to discuss allowing the popular pastime in the rural community, but the council ultimately left the ordinance as is.
The Tuckerman Police Department decided to strictly enforce the ordinance in October. Officers leniently enforced the ban in the past, but they began receiving an influx of complaints about reckless driving.
Those caught driving through town will land a $50 ticket for first offense.
