JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- A special election coming in November will allow Arkansans to vote on continuing efforts to improve interstate highways.
Tuesday, Jonesboro Transportation Committee members met and listened to Craig Douglas with "Move Arkansas Forward". The campaign is to inform people about a new Interstate Rehabilitation Program coming up for a vote on November 8th.
In 1999 voters passed an Interstate Rehabilitation Program that helped re-construct over 350 miles of interstate. Arkansas has over 650 miles of interstate highways. The 2011 program would work to modernize the remaining 300 miles of road.
No new or increased taxes will be required for the 2011 program. Instead Douglas said funding will come from future federal revenue and an existing 4 cent state diesel tax passed in 1999.
