COPY-Last of 'Delta Blues' cops to appear in Ark. court

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The last of 5 police officers implicated in a drug and corruption probe in eastern Arkansas is scheduled to ask a judge to release him on bond.

Herman Eaton is accused of accepting $500 bribes from someone who wanted him to escort drug shipments through the Mississippi Delta city of Helena-West Helena. Other city police officers face similar charges.

Eaton is expected to appear Thursday morning before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joe Volpe (VOHL'-pee).

Volpe has denied bond to two police officers, Robert "Bam Bam" Rogers and Robert Wahls. The remaining two, Marlene Kalb and Winston Dean Jackson, have waived their right to request bond immediately.

The five officers are among 70 people indicted in "Operation Delta Blues." Suspects face drug trafficking, weapons and conspiracy charges.
