LITTLE ROCK, AR - The National Center for Health Statistics says that the rate of teens giving birth in Arkansas declined again in 2002.
The birthrate for teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 19 was six percent this year, down seven percent from last year.
The drop continues a decade-long trend for the state, which has seen the teen birthrate fall 25 percent since 1991. About 60 out of every 1,000 Arkansas teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 19 gave birth during 2002.
Medical officials and child advocates point to better access to birth control and promotion of abstinence for the sharp drop.
