Court date set for Region 8 man accused of murder

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Region 8 man accused of murdering an 83-year old woman is expected to appear in court Monday. According to the Craighead County Prosecutor's Office, Ronnie Laster may appear in court for a motion and plea hearing. Laster himself may not be present for the hearing. His lawyer is expected to be present.

Laster is charged with first degree murder in the case of Helen Johnson. Johnson was found dead, with multiple stab wounds, in her home on Hasbrook Road in Craighead County.

The Craighead County Sheriff's Office indicated Johnson's body was found by a neighbor after Johnson's granddaughter asked him to check on her.

Laster was arrested January 8, 2011. Police said he rented a home from Johnson only a few houses down the road.

Laster's wife, Tammy Laster, was arrested on charges of hindering apprehension. A judge set her bond at $250,000.

Ronnie Laster's bond was set at one-million dollars.
