LITTLE ROCK, AR - About 50 Arkansas schools may be eligible to be taken off a list marking them as academically deficient.
The Education Department named 342 schools to the state's academically failing list in October.
So far one school, West Fork Middle School, has had a successful appeal of its listing with officials from that school learning that it is to be removed from the list.
If an Arkansas middle school falls below for two years it is required to alter how it spends its federal funding to comply with the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
The department would not release the full list of Arkansas schools that are to be removed from the list.
