Memphis Mayor Wants to Spend More Money on Pyramid

MEMPHIS, TN - The Pyramid on the Memphis riverfront isn't even paid for yet.

But Mayor Willie Herenton wants to spend more money on it.

State and local taxpayers are now building a $250 million stadium for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies.

And the University of Memphis basketball team may want to move in.

To prevent that, Herenton wants to spend $4.5 million on the Pyramid.  That would finance new locker rooms and pay for seating changes to make the arena more comfortable for fans.

The city and county still owe $35 million on the Pyramid.
