Harding Men's Soccer falls 2-1 to 21st-ranked Christian Brothers

An own goal in the 75th minute gave 21st-ranked Christian Brothers a 2-1 victory over Harding in Gulf South Conference men's soccer action at the Harding Soccer Field.

With the loss, Harding fell to 6-10-1 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play. The Bisons are tied with Ouachita Baptist for fourth place in the GSC. The top four teams qualify for the tournament, and Harding and Ouachita Baptist meet Friday in Arkadelphia, Ark., for the regular season finale with the winner reaching the tournament.

Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, Harding sophomore Ryan Wilhelm headed in redshirt freshman Jona Amssoms' free kick in the 42nd minute to tie the game. It was Wilhelm's third goal of the season and second in his last two games.

Christian Brothers (13-3-0, 4-0-0) took the early lead on Jose Ferraz's free kick in the 30th minute. It was Ferraz's 12th goal of the season, the most by a player in the GSC.

The own goal came on a Christian Brothers cross from the right side that was headed in by a Harding defender attempting to clear the ball over the end line.

It was the final home game for Harding, who honored seniors Connor Galloway, Zach Auala, Austin Brown and John Eddy in a ceremony prior to the game.
