Gosnell police officer injured during chase

GOSENLL, AR (KAIT) – A Gosnell police officer is stable condition after being hit head-on by a running suspect during a police chase.

According to Gosnell Police Chief Bobby Trump, Captain Charley Byrd was injured when a suspect running from Mississippi County Sheriff Deputies slammed into his police cruiser. Byrd was taken to a local hospital with lacerations to his head, and is listed in stable condition.

Chief Trump told Region 8 News, that Billy Lane was spotted by a Mississippi County Sheriff's Deputy who was attempting to pull Lane over for outstanding warrants. A chase ensued through a housing development in Gosnell, where Lane ran head-on into Gosnell Captain Byrd.

Lane then ran on foot from the crash scene, and was captured a short time later by Chief Trump. A passenger in Lane's car told police Lane told her "he was not going back to jail."

Chief Trump says Lane will facing state police charges of assault on an officer and other charges are pending.
