JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Hundreds of special needs students enjoyed the 13th Annual Craighead County Miracle Rodeo on Saturday. The Craighead County Sheriff's Department mounted patrol organizes the rodeo, and its chairwoman says the event puts a smile on kids' faces every year.
"It allows them to have a day that they are the special person within the community, and they're number one in everything that they do," Sherry Carter said.
The special needs children took turns riding barrel bulls and swing-set horses at the Craighead County Fairgrounds. They also got their faces painted and met some animals from the ASU petting zoo. Those in attendance could also ride real horses and take a spin on a carriage.
Carter expected 600 families to attend Saturday, as a record 255 kids had registered for the event.
