Madonna Endorses Wesley Clark

January 8, 2004  -- Posted at 5:33 AM  CDT

Washington, DC  --Retired general Wesley Clark's Democratic presidential campaign has a high-profile endorsement from ... the Material Girl.

Madonna posted a letter on her Web site yesterday urging others to back Clark. She announced her support for him before Christmas.

She wrote  ``The future I wish for my children is at risk. I'm supporting Wes Clark because in him I see the qualifications, character and vision that we so desperately need.''

Madonna, who now calls London home, pledges to do all she can to help Clark's campaign and includes a Web link for people to contribute to the Democratic candidate.

A spokesman for the retired Army general from Little Rock says she also plans a fund-raiser at her Los Angeles residence sometime in the future.
