Satellite provider DirecTV adds KAIT to its HD lineup - KAIT-Jonesboro, AR-News, weather, sports

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - DirecTV has added KAIT, the ABC affiliate in Jonesboro, Arkansas to its high definition lineup. The satellite TV Company plans to add KAIT along with 15 other stations in the United States to its HD lineup.

Jonesboro market DirecTV customers will receive KAIT for the first time via satellite.  "We're thrilled to expand our footprint by launching HD locals in these additional markets," said Derek Chang, executive vice president, Content Strategy and Development for DIRECTV. "With the expansion of our local-channel service to more than 99 percent of TV homes across the country by the end of this year, we'll become an even stronger competitor in these communities."

DirecTV follows the Jonesboro Designated Market Area which includes; Craighead, Greene, Clay, Randolph, Lawrence, and Sharp Counties. This means DirecTV customers in these areas will be able to get KAIT on their satellite.

The HD version of these local channels will be available to DIRECTV customers for the first time.

The following broadcast networks will be available in HD:

•             KAIT/ABC Ch. 8

•             KFVS/CBS Ch. 12

•             KBSI/FOX Ch. 23

•             WPSD/NBC Ch. 6

•             KTEJ/PBS Ch. 19

KVTJ/IND Ch. 48 will be available in standard definition.

For customers who live within each new market, DIRECTV will deliver HD programming from the primary broadcast networks - ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and CW - where available.  Eligibility for local channels is based on service address within certain designated-market areas, as defined by Nielsen Media Research, Inc.

Other markets include Alexandria, Louisiana, Billings, Montana, Lake Charles, Louisiana, Jackson, Tennessee, Panama City, Florida, Chico-Redding, California, Elmira, New York, Greenwood-Greenville, Mississippi, St. Joseph, Missouri, Hattiesburg-Laurel, Mississippi, Utica, New York, and Yuma, Arizona.
