FORREST CITY, AR (KAIT) – Forrest City Police say they have arrested a man for aggravated assault after firing a weapon at another person.
Police say they were called to 247 Laney Dr. at 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday to investigate a fired shot. Larry Glen Dearing, Jr., was arrested after police were able to coax him from his home where he was allegedly holding a woman named Brenda Laws captive.
According to police, a witness said Laws had called them to pick her up at the home, but the witness turned around and left after a brief incident (no specifications were given on what that incident was). After a while, police say the witness returned in another attempt to pick up Laws, but Dearing came out of the house instead and opened fire.
Since police believed Laws was still in the house when they arrived, the Forrest City Police Department Special Response Team (SRT) was called to the scene.
Police say a family member was finally able to coax Dearing from the house and surrender to police.
Investigating officers say a search revealed a loaded .22 caliber rifle, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.
No charges were pressed in connection with Brenda Laws. Dearing was charged with aggravated assault, possession of firearm by certain persons (convicted felon), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
