JONESBORO, AR - Representative Marion Berry issued a statement today saying that the Bush administration's request for $1 billion to fund a base on the moon is ill-timed.
Berry said he doesn't question the mission's ambition, but that right now it's more important to take care of a $7.5 billion shortfall in public school funding.
Berry said the most significant contribution to the space program would be well-educated future astronauts. He said as of right now, American children's math and science skills lag behind other countries.
