Winter Wonderland is back

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-Christmas is just around the corner and so is Winter Wonderland.

Communications Director for the city of Jonesboro,, Jack Turner, is the project leader for Winter Wonderland.

Turner says Winter Wonderland has a new home this year off of Monroe street and this new location is going to have a big advantage.

"The biggest advantage for us over here off of Monroe is traffic, " Turner said. "The biggest problem they've had in the past over on Main Street have been the cars. It's pretty dangerous for kids to be running across the street. Well, here, we're actually going to shut off this section of Monroe during the operating hours of Winter Wonderland. There's also going to be plenty of parking in this city owned parking lot on Union and Monroe."

Turner says they've had a lot of help from the community with moving and reopening the facility.

"We've been fortunate to have quite a few people come out and volunteer, " Turner said proudly. "Between the local schools Valley View and Nettleton, during their Hope Week. On top of that, the Nettleton art department came in and did some painting for us."

But the extra help didn't stop there.

Turner says they also received help from a number of local businesses.

"We've had nothing but support from the entire community. A lot of donations have come in. Local business have been donating supplies, paint for the floor. One business did some construction work for us. I think the community really wants this to stay a part of the community."

And it's no wonder.

This will be Winter Wonderlands seventeenth year to help bring in the holiday spirit.

"It's become a tradition. A lot of families make it a point to come out and visit Winter Wonderland. They've come as a kid and now they're bringing their kids."

The Rotary Clubs of Jonesboro are planning on working at Winter Wonderland this year and have agreed to do so for the next three years.

Turner says this is really going to make a big difference.

"This means we're going to be able to open this facility longer and keep it open throughout the entire holiday season."

The doors of Winter Wonderland will open to the public on November the 25th and will stay open through December the 23rd.

Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 5 to 8 pm and on Saturdays from 2 to 8.
