CARUTHERSVILLE, MO - Authorities with the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department today are investigating an apparent double murder that occured Sunday afternoon.

According to a release from the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, the incident occured at approximately 2 p.m. at 1425 County Highway 563 on the Arkansas-Missouri state line.  The Pemiscot County 911 dispatch center received a call about the shooting at 2:23 p.m.  The first emergency responders to actually arrive at the scene were officers with the Blytheville Police Department and the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.  Pemiscot County deputies arrived a short time later.

Upon arrival, officers found 42-year-old Jeffrey Chamness and 35-year-old Gregory Chamness dead in the living room of a mobile home.  The victims were identified as brothers, and both men lived at the address.

Authorities have two suspects in custody at the Pemiscot County jail in Caruthersville.  They are described as a 48-year-old white male and his son, a 27-year-old white male.  The names of the suspect have not yet been released, pending the filing of formal charges.  The father was taken into custody in Pemiscot County, while his son was arrested on Highway 60 near Dexter in Stoddard County.

No motive for the killings has been established, but authorities say illegal drugs were found at the crime scene.  The incident remains under investigation by the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department and the Drug & Crime Control Division of the Missouri Highway Patrol.
