Funeral for Stoddard County soldier

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KAIT) - A final farewell was given on Sunday to a fallen Heartland hero.

Specialist James Burnett, Junior of Brownwood died after his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

Early Sunday evening, people gathered in Stoddard County to honor the life of this young man who many say always wanted to be a soldier.  He was a decorated soldier, and hero to all who knew him.

Specialist James Burnett Junior was killed serving his country in Afghanistan less than 2 weeks ago.

His fiance, Amy Keeler, says she was touched to see the hundreds gathered in Advance to celebrate his life.

He lived a life, family members say, that touched so many in just 21 years.

Burnett leaves behind a brother and seven younger sisters, siblings who miss him dearly.

Now the community says it's their duty to keep this brave soldier's memory alive.

On Saturday funeral services were held in Wayne County, MO for Burnett.

U.S. and state of Missouri flags also flew at half-staff to honor the fallen soldier.
