Newport Service League raises money for local children

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) – The Newport Service League is hosting a holiday tour of homes to benefit children in need. The tour will take place Sunday, December 4th, and three families will open their homes for a good cause.

The non-profit organization is selling tickets for $15. All the proceeds help children receive warm coats, shoes and other essentials this winter. Jennifer Eddington says helping kids is the most important thing the organization does.

"I've been in the group probably for 15 years and still see kids that I took 15 years ago that remember me," Eddington said. "You get that little smile or wave. It means a lot. You know you've added something to their life that stuck with them."

The Newport Service League is celebrating 63 years of service to the community. Last year, the group raised enough money to clothe 80 students with an individual budget of $150 each.

To purchase tickets, visit Daisies N Such, Darling's Fine Things, Purdy's Flowers and Gifts and Merchants & Planters Bank in Newport.
