ASU granted initial accreditation for master of social work program

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The Arkansas State University's master of social work (MSW) has been granted initial accreditation from the 2008-09 academic school year to October 2015 by the Commission on Accreditation (COA).

According to ASU, the MSW program had originally met all benchmarks in the four-step accreditation process and was set to achieve accreditation by the fall semester of 2011, but upon further examination, the university found that the accreditation was actually on schedule to be granted in the fall of 2012, causing problems for students in the program.

University Leaders say the change in schedule became an issue for students planning to graduate from an accredited program in May 2011, which would have made them eligible for a state Licensed Master Social Worker examination administered by the Arkansas Social Work Licensing Board. State law requires that only graduates of an accredited master of social work program may sit for the exam

Procedures regarding the process of Reaffirmation may be found on the CSWE website.
