ASU granted initial accreditation for master of social work program

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The ArkansasState University's master of social work (MSW) has been granted initial accreditationfrom the 2008-09 academic school year to October 2015 by the Commission onAccreditation (COA).

According to ASU, the MSW program hadoriginally met all benchmarks in the four-step accreditation process and wasset to achieve accreditation by the fall semester of 2011, but upon furtherexamination, the university found that the accreditation was actually onschedule to be granted in the fall of 2012, causing problems for students inthe program.

University Leaders say the change inschedule became an issue for students planning to graduate from an accreditedprogram in May 2011, which would have made them eligible for a state Licensed MasterSocial Worker examination administered by the Arkansas Social Work LicensingBoard. State law requires that only graduates of an accredited master of socialwork program may sit for the exam

Procedures regarding the process ofReaffirmation may be found on the CSWE website.
