Man pulls gun, later stabs victim on Thanksgiving

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – Officers with the Paragould Police Department are reporting a stabbing that occurred in the north side of Paragould Thursday.

According to investigators, Charles "Freddie" Simpson, 49, of Paragould, was arrested after he stabbed an unnamed victim at a residence on 806 N. 5th St.

Police say three witnesses told investigating officer Lt. Chuck Boone that Simpson had first pulled a gun on his victim, but the gun was taken away from him before he could cause any harm. Simpson then pulled out a knife, stabbed the victim, and returned to his own home, said police.

Cpl. Brad Snyder said he was able to talk to the victim at the hospital who verified that Simpson was the man who stabbed him.

Lt. Boone recovered the knife in Simpson's bedroom.

Police have not said why the victim was stabbed, or what events led up to the assault.

Simpson is charged with first degree battery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by certain persons.
