Names released after attempted armed robbery in SEMO

DUNKLIN COUNTY, MO (KAIT) – Officials with the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office said two people have been arrested in Clay County, AR after an attempted armed robbery at Lack's Package Store on 15009 State Highway 84 west of Kennett, MO.

According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, Daren Orvil Holyfield, 26, of Sikeston, entered the store Sunday, stated he had a weapon, and that he wanted money. Police say a scuffle ensued between Johnny E. Lack, Jr. and Holyfield before Holyfield left the store and drove west into Arkansas.

Police say Holyfield was later found with Renee Stricklin, 27, of Corning, AR on a field road where their vehicle was stuck in the mud. Police say the car used in the robbery was stolen from Corning, AR.

Both Stricklin and Holyfield were turned over to Clay County deputies after Kennett Police and Dunklin County deputies obtained permission to pursue the pair within Clay County jurisdiction, say police.

Holyfield and Stricklin were taken to the Clay County Jail in Piggott, AR, and charges for the Missouri attempted robbery will be filled with the Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office; the pair are also facing charges in Arkansas for automobile theft.

According to investigating officers, the attempted robbery at Lack's Package Store was the second store the couple attempted to rob. The first was the Express Convenience Store on Highway 53 in Campbell, MO. Charges will be filed for the Campbell incident by the Campbell Police Department.

Both robbery attempts were unsuccessful.
