JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Disabled American Veteran's welcomed some much needed funds Monday morning.
Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin and Craighead County Judge Ed Hill met with DAV members on Monday. They met at the County Judges office where Mayor Perrin and Judge Hill presented them with a check for $5,000 each.
Commander of the Disabled American Veteran's Chapter 26, Billy Cribbs, said this money will go to good use. They plan to purchase a new van to transport Veterans for medical care.
"This van is getting close to one hundred and fifty thousand (miles) on it and I'd be scared to take that many people," Cribbs said. "Some of those veterans, you know, what if it was to break down, no heat and no air.
Cecil Stevenson is a former National DAV Commander and he said this van is very important to Veterans.
"We have about two hundred and seventy-five or two hundred and eighty national service officers throughout the United States and the service they give to veterans is free and it helps them with their problems and compensation and hospitalization problems."
The DAV has two vans that run three days a week. One runs to Little Rock and the other to Memphis.
