LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Hayden Smith threw for 319 yards and
six touchdowns - four to Drew Morgan - as Greenwood made easy work
of Batesville in a 53-11 win in the Class 5A state championship
game.
The championship is the second straight for the Bulldogs (14-0)
and the school's sixth in the last 11 seasons.
The Pioneers (11-3) entered the game having won 10 in a row and
did their best to slow Greenwood early. Batesville closed the
Bulldogs' lead to 14-11 in the first quarter after a 76-yard
touchdown pass from Cody Vaughn to Athan Dockery.
Greenwood took control after that - scoring 39 unanswered points
to take a 53-11 fourth-quarter lead after Smith's sixth touchdown
pass. Smith finished 17 of 24 passing, while Morgan had six catches
for 161 yards.
