ASU Athletic Department releases statement regarding Hugh Freeze

JONESBORO, AR (ASU) - In response to multiple requests for information regarding Hugh Freeze's status as Arkansas State's head football coach and his level of involvement in the ongoing searches for a head football coach at various NCAA FBS Institutions, specifically the Ole Miss search, the ASU Department of Athletics is issuing the following statement.

"We have received a request from Ole Miss, and Ole Miss only, to visit with Coach Freeze, and we have granted them permission to speak with him," said ASU Director of Athletics Dr. Dean Lee.  "Beyond that, we feel it is inappropriate to comment publicly on another institution's search for a head football coach at this time."

"We continue to have discussions with Coach Freeze at this time regarding his situation, but our major focus during this process has been and will continue to be on the Arkansas State football program," continued Lee.  "Our priority is on what we can control, and that is exhausting all avenues to give our football program the best opportunity for continued success."

Arkansas State, which concluded its regular-season with a 10-2 overall and unblemished 8-0 league record, has claimed its first outright Sun Belt Conference championship in school history.  The Red Wolves have accepted an official invitation to play in the Bowl on Jan. 8.
