Christmas kicks off with a bang in Paragould

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Christmas kicked off in style once again in Paragould as the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony sponsored by the AMMC Auxiliary kicked off in the lobby of Arkansas Methodist Medical Center on Monday.

The event moved indoors in 2002 and has been a sign of the holiday season in Paragould ever since. The night features an auction of Christmas trees decorated by different departments in the hospital.

The money from the auction goes toward something different to benefit the hospital each year. President of the AMMC Auxiliary Pat Dowdy said this years event will benefit room renovations in the for AMMC. "I'm proud to be able to volunteer and help the hospital and all of the people it serves," said Dowdy.

The event wasn't just about the auction. The event featured the announcement of the Grand Marshall of Tuesday night's Christmas Parade, AMMC President/CEO Ron Rooney, along with a spectacular performance by the Greene County Tech Elementary School Choir led by Mary Ann Marsden.

"This is really what we look at as the official start of Christmas in Paragould," said Dowdy.
