JONESBORO, AR--After year's of rumors and waiting, Sam's club is officially open for business in Jonesboro.

By the size of the crowd today, Region 8 is ready for Sam's Club shopping and it looks like Sam's Club is finally ready for Region 8. Thousands turned out for Thursday's Sam's Grand Opening.

For shoppers the new warehouse club is about big bargains in bulk. "They can buy gas, they can get diesel, they can get their groceries, their clothes, and we have a lot of treasure hunt items that are really neat items that come in for a while and they're gone," said Bill Senn, Sam's Club Divisional Sales Manager. "You never know what you're going to find when you're down here."

Randy Blankley, Jonesboro's Sam's Club Manager said, "I tell you when members walk in and see the savings, it's fun to watch, it really is."

For city leaders it's about big bucks in sales taxes. "The more retail, the more sales tax money rolling in, and the less we have to raise citizen's taxes," said Jonesboro Mayor Hubert Brodell.

The day's other big winners were local charities. Sam's Club handed out checks totaling $24,000 and more checks will be forthcoming in the months ahead.
